John Rich started the company in th 1820's.He began in wool fabrics and socks. He established the factory in Woolrich Pennsylvania, one of the oldest textile factories in the United States. In 1939 Woolrich oufitted Admiral Byrd in his famous trip to Antarctica and outfitted many Himalayan mountain climbing trips in the 1970's.

Woolrich was the first to use zippers in trousers. Woolrich established a legendary reputation for durable, rugged and exceptional quality clothing.

 In the 1960's Woolrich expanded into four seasons sportswear adding cotton sportswear and outerwear as well as performance wools.Woolrich produces men's, women's and children's clothing and home furnishings. Woolrich stresses function, comfort and durability in all its product offerings
