Vogel's & Foster's has been a family owned clothing store in downtown Chelsea MI (just a ten minute drive from Ann Arbor, MI) since 1910. Located in a turn of the century building with original hardwood floors and wonderful antique fixtures, including several unique glass cases. H.S. Holmes , one of the founders of Chelsea Milling, better known as Jiffy Mix, built the building in the 1880's. The back room still has an old safe that looks like it came from stagecoach days! The store originally sold everything from soup to nuts to yard goods. Helen Vogel took over in 1910 and began selling fabric ,clothing and accessories. Helen stored a lot of merchandise in boxes and would pick out your clothing for you (you did not get to pick it yourself). Helen also was known to have merchandise for local customers but if you were from out of town she may not have anything available for you!
The men's side was run by Dell Wurster until around World War Two. Bob Foster took over the men's side and was known for his kind manner for many years. Jack and Friedelle Winans took over after Helen Vogel died and ran the store for 22 years until they retired at the end of 1993 . My name is Mike Jackson I took over in 1994. I have constantly strived to continue the reputation of friendly customer service and top quality clothing.
